In Mr. Freund and Mrs. Britz’s gym classes earlier this month, our second graders (from Mrs. Rama and Mrs. Wilson’s classes) were jumping up their heart rate during the Ninja Heart Challenge! 💪Students paired with a partner, with one jumping and the other counting. Each “belt” level had its own challenge. For example, to earn their white belt, students had to complete five jumps in a row without making a mistake. Once they earned a belt, they started over trying to earn the next belt, working their way all the way to the ultimate black belt – 75 jumps in a row! 🥋 We love seeing their determination and teamwork. 🤩 #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Earlier this month, Ms. Hockaday’s third grade class at Flat Rock Elementary put math in motion using coding and Ozobots. Working in pairs, students solved donut shop word problems to unlock secret codes that made their Ozobots perform awesome tricks! 🍩 🤖🎉 The class practiced rounding and estimating and, with help from Ms. Bentzen, our Innovative Learning Coach, they used the Ozobots to check their answers. 🎬 Earlier this month, the Powhatan High School Intro to Film class had an awesome hands-on experience at PCC! Thanks to PCC staff members Josh Bartlam (local videographer) and Lenny Harris (Director of Operations), students learned about camera movement and shots, then put their skills into practice, first learning about the equipment and then filming a live band practice. 🎥🎶 We love engaging with local partners in our community to create these amazing learning experiences in fields that interest them. #wearepcps #teampowhatan

Powhatan Elementary’s Kids Heart Challenge Awards Assembly whipped students and staff into a frenzy earlier this month in the climax to American Heart Month in February! 🧡 From jump rope challenges to learning about heart health and CPR, students went above and beyond leading up to this event. Their reward was seeing some of their beloved faculty and staff members get a face full of whipped cream courtesy of some of their classmates.
